Report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Northern Mali*

Note by the secretariat

The secretariat hereby informs the Human Rights Council that an oral statement will

be made by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to the Council at its

twenty-first session instead of a report, as had been requested by the Council in its

resolution 20/17. The statement will be based on information provided by human rights

field presences of the Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR) and United Nations

agencies in neighbouring countries, including the OHCHR Regional Office in West Africa

in Dakar, the country Office in Mauritania, and reports made by a human rights officer

deployed by OHCHR to Bamako to support the United Nations country team in the field of

human rights.
