PRST/ 9/2 Follow-up to President's statement 8/1

At the 22nd meeting, on 24 September 2008, the President of the Council read out the

following statement:

"To ensure the smooth adoption of future reports relating to the universal periodic

review, and in the light of the consultations held with all concerned parties, the following

arrangements shall be followed:

(a) The report of the respective session of the Council shall comprise, as an

integral section, the following parts:

(i) Summary of the views expressed by the State under review in the

plenary session of the Council before the adoption of the outcome, its

replies to questions and issues not sufficiently addressed during the

interactive dialogue, its views on conclusions and recommendations, its

voluntary commitments and its concluding remarks;

(ii) Summary of the views expressed on the outcome by Member and

observer States of the Council;

(iii) Summary of general comments made by other relevant stakeholders;

(b) In order to reflect the views of all speakers accurately and to ensure

balanced reporting on both the Working Group and plenary sessions, and

bearing in mind the financial implications, including costs for translation

of documents, a word limit shall apply to documentation related to the

universal periodic review, as specified in the chart annexed to the present

text;

(c) Statements or part of the statements, including those ruled out of order

under the universal periodic review, will be dealt with in accordance with

the rules and practices of the Human Rights Council."
